VALUE CHAINS

Industree Foundation works across Karnataka and Maharashtra, supporting smallholder farmers and producers in the bamboo value chain from seed to market. Expanding to over 14 states with National and State Rural Livelihood Missions, the initiative promotes bamboo—a fast-growing, high-yielding resource that sequesters up to four times more carbon and produces 35% more oxygen. Its ability to grow on degraded lands makes it vital for climate resilience, while creating strong market linkages boosts rural incomes and economic stability.

Industree Foundation is building a sustainable banana value chain in Tamil Nadu by transforming banana bark—typically burned as waste—into high-value products. This initiative creates jobs and additional income for nearly 4,000 rural and marginalized women farmers and agri-laborers by linking raw material sourcing with rope and basket-making units. Women producers craft handcrafted home décor, fashion, and storage products, and are connected to national and international markets, collectively owning and managing the entire value chain.

Industree Foundation's biodegradable leaf plate value chain in Odisha transforms fallen sal leaves—collected sustainably without harming trees—into eco-friendly disposable plates and bowls. This initiative provides steady income for women from marginalized, rural, and tribal communities, while reducing carbon footprint and replacing plastic with biodegradable alternatives. By equipping women with skills in sourcing and manufacturing, the program links them to local and national markets, empowering them through sustainable livelihoods that benefit both the environment and society.
